PB Scotland Training

Learning and ideas to support participatory budgeting done well in Scotland.

We’re now offering FREE training sessions for practitioners in Scotland at all stages of their PB learning journey for 2023.

From those starting out, to those who want to learn from their previous experience each session will give you the insights and knowledge you need.

Training will be delivered by an experienced practitioner in a friendly, participative way. Delivered on Zoom, the sessions will be accessible and engaging with plenty of chance for discussion and no long Powerpoints.

Using the PB Charter, our training covers a whole range of topics, including:

principles and values of PB,
participatory democracy,
practical PB,
digital PB,
dialogue and deliberation,
and understanding public finance.

Availability is going to be extremely limited so we’ll be offering it on a first-come-first-served basis, and making sure it’s the right training for your knowledge and experience.

An Introduction to Participatory Budgeting

Monday 27th February 2023, 10.00am - 12:30pm on Zoom.

This training session will be ideal for someone new to PB how wants to gain an overview of how it works in practice, understand the fundamental principles and learn the context of how PB is delivered here in Scotland.

Getting Started with Participatory Budgeting

Monday 6th March 2023, 10am - 12:30pm on Zoom.

This training is aimed at someone who knows about PB and wants to start running a PB process. You’ll learn from our experienced team about how to bring people together to develop ideas, plan the PB process and engage the community in the next steps.

Delivering Participatory Budgeting

Monday 13th March 2023, 10am - 12.30pm on Zoom.

This session will be ideal for someone who is already delivering PB. We’ll use examples from Scotland and beyond to explore the big issues around ensuring inclusive PB, using different methods and techniques and using digital tools to deliver PB at scale.

Monday 20th March 2023, 10am - 12.30 on Zoom.

This session will be ideal for someone who wants to understand how to build on their learning of previous PB activity. We’ll go in-depth around how to monitor and evaluate, learning about what works, what doesn’t and what to do next.
