Edinburgh South West Neighbourhood Partnership has run a PB process where young people have decided on £10,000 for local projects.
'Grant a Grand' took place in autumn 2015 and early 2016, with funds available to any fun and educational ideas for the area. Normally distributed through a panel of community members, this was an opportunity for young people to vote directly for specific ideas that they liked.
Anyone between 10 and 19 years old who lived in South West Edinburgh was encouraged to have their say, with voting open from 1st February until Wednesday 24th February. Voting took place at local libraries when checking out a book, at community centres when attending a youth club, online and at the beginning of the results event in February.
With more than 600 votes, 10 ideas were chosen by local communities at a community event (shown above) at Carrickvale Community Centre. The event included stalls from local community groups, live music, sports tasters and refreshments.
The 10 organisations to receive the £1,000 fund out of the possible sixteen were:
- JASS Gorgie City Farm
- Goals for Hutchie Vale Girls
- Music Festival
- Five-a-Side Football
- Parkour at the Plaza
- Born to Bake
- Girls Allowed
- Bikes for all to Enjoy
- Under the Stars
- Get Dirty!
