Event report: Burnfoot Bids Together

Burnfoot Community Futures is a long-standing active community organisation (established in 2006) who are delivering a local PB process in the Burnfoot area of Hawick in the Scottish Borders.

The process (called Burnfoot Bids Together) is well underway and has attracted a huge amount of interest from local groups and organisations - at the closing date there was well over twice the amount of bids for the grant available.

The Burnfoot Bids Together process aims to address the local community action plan priorities and these are the key criteria by which applications are being considered. The process itself is extremely informative and inclusive and strenuous efforts have been made to inform and involve the whole community, and to support people to take part. A booklet has been produced and distributed round the local community which summarises all the bids which will be going through to the voting event.

We attended an information session on 20th February run by the group for all the groups who are through to the voting event. This information session was well-attended and helped to give the applicants a real sense of what the voting event will be like and what is expected from them. There was a lot of discussion and very sensible questions, which were ably answered by the group.

So, on to the voting event on Sunday 19th March. This event will take place in Burnfoot Community School and will take the form of a family fun day with a full range of activities for young and old, as well as the important business of the presentations and voting.
