£15k for “strengthening and growing Gaelic" in Argyll & Bute
/Projects put forward by local communities are now being put to the vote, with residents of Argyll and Bute invited to choose how they would like £15,000 to be spent locally.
Argyll and Bute Council secured £15,000 of Scottish Government funding to let communities decide how to “strengthen and grow Gaelic” in the area.
Community groups and constituted not-for profit organisations have put forward ideas for how the money could be spent.
Members of the public are now invited to vote for which of fourteen ideas they would like to be funded.
Projects are wide ranging, cover Argyll and Bute, and encompass education, music and culture.
The voting process, known as ‘Participatory Budgeting’ (PB), is recognised worldwide as a way for local people to have a direct say in how, and where, public funds are spent to address local needs.
Anyone who lives in Argyll and Bute and is aged 16 or over can vote online and choose which projects will receive a share of the funding at www.abpb.co.uk. Voting closes on 6th May and you can take part, even if you’re not registered or eligible to vote in electoral elections.
The projects that are competing for funding are:
- Air Ghleus in Mull and Iona
- Sandbank Primary School Summer Play Scheme
- Fuaimean Craignish in Ardfern
- Grow Our Own Gaelic Practitioners
- Support Classes For Parents With Children In Gaelic Education
- Awareness of Argyll Gaelic, Gaelic Drama Workshops for Teenagers
- Dalriada Gaelic Immersion Weekend in Auchindrain
- Helensburgh Gaelic Club
- Youth Club for Gaelic Speaking Children
- Support For School Libraries
- Gaelic Heritage Project at Dunoon Burgh Hall
- A Feasibility Study For A Stand Alone Gaelic School in Oban
- A Mod Academy project
