Dundee Decides: Results in for mainstream PB process

With more than 11,000 voters from across the city, Dundee has decided how it wants to spend more than £1 million of the council's mainstream budget through participatory budgeting.

Mainstream PB is a way of having local people vote on budgets controlled by a public body, such as a local council. These conventional budgets are often much larger than we have seen in small grants PB, with the decision-making over the council's £1.2 million infrastructure put into the hands of Dundee residents aged 11 or over through an online vote.

John Alexander leader of Dundee City Council who helped launch the consultation back in January said: “I am absolutely blown away by the level of engagement and informed participation there has been with what was a brand new scheme.

“In other parts of Scotland councils used a separate pot of cash for their participatory budgeting arrangements but we are the only place in the country to take a slice of our mainstream budget and hand it over to communities to decide how and where it should be spent.”

Each of the council’s eight electoral wards has been allocated up to £150,000 to spend on infrastructure improvements. See the winners below and read more here.
