Aberdeenshire pupils use PB for climate action

Aberdeenshire pupils have been involved in a participatory budgeting process which has seen 27 projects funded related to climate change and carbon reduction.

Pupils from six primary schools had their say, with £41,000 in funding from Aberdeenshire Council, as part of its Climate Ready Aberdeenshire vision.

The funded projects will see activity around:

  • learning resources

  • electric car points

  • a school weather station

  • upcycling

  • textile fashion workshops

  • making sure recyclables avoid landfill

  • wildlife and biodiversity

The participatory budgeting in schools project supported young people to be part of Aberdeenshire Council’s Climate Ready Action Plan and forms part of the Council’s commitment to see 1% of its available budget distributed through participatory budgeting.

PB in schools is a way for pupils to directly vote on how school money should be spent.

Green PB is a way for people to make direct decisions about how budgets are spent addressing climate change and reducing our carbon footprints.
