Gorebridge decisions for 'Food, Glorious Food'
/Gorebridge residents have voted
Local people in Gorebridge, Midlothian have voted in favour of funding ten projects, all aimed at promoting healthy eating.
Around 180 residents came along to a special ‘participatory budgeting’ decision making event on 25 March in Gorebridge Church Hall.
Funding available
A total of £16,000 was available to improve health through promoting healthy eating, supporting community growing schemes and other food related activities. Eleven Gorebridge based groups had submitted funding bids for sums of up to £3000.
Projects that received funding
Of the eleven initiatives, local people voted in favour of giving nine of them the total amount of money requested, with one project to be partially funded.
Among the projects that got the green light were:
- Arniston Rangers Youth Football Club: Fresh water dispensers will be installed at their new facility.
- Gorebridge Gala Committee: Healthy eating buffets will be provided at their gala week events.
- Growth Matters: Resources will be purchased to establish a community garden.
- Gorebridge After School Club: Healthy food options and cooking classes will be provided for local children.
