Opportunity: Community Choices Development Manger, COSLA

COSLA and the Scottish Government are advertising this post, open for applications until 9th July 2017. The job listing is detailed below.

Community Choices Development Manager

  • £44,706 - £46,815 per year
  • 36.00 hours per week
  • 12 months with possible extension

This is a high-profile area of work that will cover the development and expansion of Community Choices budgeting across Local Authorities in Scotland. The Scottish Government’s Programme for Government contains a commitment that by the end of this Parliamentary term, at least 1% of Local Authority Budgets will be covered by Community Choices budgeting. The post is advertised on a full-time basis reflecting the work that will be required between the Scottish and Local Government and COSLA in assisting Local Authorities in building their capacity to deliver this commitment.

The post offers an opportunity to be involved centrally in the development and implementation of the new arrangements which aim to increase community engagement and participation in local decision making. It would suit a person with experience of working through, and with, others in an environment of strong political, multiple stakeholder and member interests to support and deliver change in a given timescale.

The post holder will be based in COSLA as part of the COSLA Communities Team and working with the Scottish Government.  We anticipate that they will have a strong relationship with COSLA’s governance structures and with professional input from those responsible for Local Government’s corporate work, as well as Finance and Community Services.  As a member of COSLA’s Communities Team they will be expected to work with other staff in COSLA and the Scottish Government to ensure that appropriate links are maintained between this area of work and related activity in the mainstreaming of Community Choices budgeting.
