Learning event: Participatory Budgeting in a Digital World
/Tuesday 25 August 10am – 12noon
Zoom
This online learning event will explore digital approaches to participatory budgeting (PB), including input from contributors who have experience of using these tools, and some who have hosted events online during the pandemic.
As we emerge from Covid19 it is increasingly clear that PB has a role to play in engaging communities to be involved in important decisions about priorities. For many communities and practitioners this will have to take place mainly through digital approaches to meet our continued commitment to PB.
There will be plenty of opportunities for discussion and participants will learn more about:
How to plan a digital PB process.
What tools are available and suitable for PB
What are the opportunities and challenges for digital PB
Thinking about equalities
Holding an online decision event/process
Scotland still has a strong commitment to PB through a number of national strategies and action plans which supports recovery and resilience, including:
Glasgow Centre for Population Health which argues for community engagement and participation which is underpinned by asset-based working and participatory budgeting principles.
Scottish Government and COSLA Framework Agreement which asserts that at least 1% of local government budgets will be subject to participatory budgeting by the end of 2021.
The new Pupil Equity Funding National Guidance which recommends PB as an innovative and effective mechanism to engage with parents and pupils, in particular those who face barriers to participation.
Scotland’s National Action Plan on parental involvement, parental engagement… 2018-21 which states that parents and carers, children and young people and others should be involved in the planning process for how to spend the funding. One way of doing this is through a participatory budgeting approach.
Please note that places are limited so we will confirm if you have a place by 19th August 2020.
